Chanel Unveils Its First New Perfume In 15 Years

It’s been 15 years since Chanel added a brand new scent to its stable of iconic perfume, which famously includes dressing table mainstays like Coco Mademoiselle and the inimitable No. 5.

Now, the legendary French fashion house has unveiled the latest addition to its fragrance family: Gabrielle, named in tribute to brand founder and style icon Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel.

Set to drop at the start of next season, the ‘abstract floral’ scent was inspired by Chanel’s rebellious spirit. Speaking to WWD earlier this year, global president of fragrance and beauty Christine Dagousset revealed that ‘we were exploring this whole moment of before Coco – who she really was at the core, and that’s what we wanted to express in this new fragrance.’

The simple bottle and branding, of course, recalls the clean lines of Chanel No. 5.

According to Fragrantica, the Eau de Parfum features white flower accords, including ylang-yland, jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose from Chanel’s flower field in the Provencal city of Grasse.

The scent was composed by the brand’s in-house perfumer Olivier Polges, and is the first which Polges (who took over the prestigious role from his father Jacques in 2013) has created from scratch.

Actress and friend of the brand Kristen Stewart will be the face of the forthcoming fragrance campaign, which will be revealed ahead of the release.
